3D Ornament

After a quite long time i did some 3D logo stuff. A friend of mine is really talented in designing ornaments and mandalas. And she wanted me to rebuild her latest ornament in 3D. The image above shows her final result with the 3D ornament. For more of her work, go to: www.futago.de

By the way i'm quite surprised about myself at the moment. Because i never did so many site updates in such short time before ;)

Digital Production Article 02/09

At the beginning of 2009 the article "Operation dreidimensional" in the German version of the Digital Production magazine was published. It's an article about a 3D project from me and a colleague. Everyone who wants to have a glimpse look at it can now do so. I uploaded a PDF document of the article und updated the link in the "Press Articles" block to point to the document instead of the Digital Production website.

Updated: About, Services and Media Section

After some weeks of inactivity i came up with some site updates. The Services and the About sections have been updated with new information. The Media section got a new item called "Pendemic". On the Pendemic site you can find information and images on this university project. We were a group of seven students and created a 2D Jump'n'Run Flash game with lots of bash game components, look here:

Besides my study i work on several game and short film projects. I also work on a learning book project for school's geography lessons and a serious game project for German universities in form of an advanced e-learning platform for future project managers.
In all those projects it's my task to produce all kinds of 2D and 3D media and to consult everyone in terms of technical issues.
The only project i can show some things for at the moment is a short film project which is produced by a group of amateur filmmakers and 3D artists. The film will take part in the upcoming Animago short film contest and hopefully will rock the house. My task is the modelling and texturing of the 3D VFX parts of the film. The film combines real footage with 3D elements. Here are some screenshots and two rather simple, quick test renderings showing two characters for a wide, vfx shot:

Four images with the blue planet

Some time ago i had to create an animation for a client showing out Earth and a satellite. I uploaded four grabs from it. Have a look...

Tool update: SFL Maya and Maya Collection

For a current character animation project i have to negate lots of keyable attributes in Maya. Changing each value manually, one after the other takes way too much time. Selecting all attributes that need to be changed and using the "*=-1" trick is much faster. But while typing you can make failures and have to undo your actions and type again. This also takes time. And one thing i definitely don't have is "time". So i quickly extended my scripts with a little negation function.
The function is now built in my scripts collection.

The updated versions of the script and the plugin can be found here:

Newspaper article

I just found a newspaper article via Google with me. The article is from last year and was published in a regional newspaper. It's funny to unexpectedly come across articles about your own work ;)

Lighting and rendering test

Nothing fancy, but i really like it. I built and tried some lighting and rendering setups. My main goal was to achieve a convincing look concerning the materials and the light. I think i got something that does so...

I used Maya with Mentalray and Photoshop to create it.

First book of "perpetuum publishing" is available now

After tons of discussions, work and stress "perpetuum publishing" brought out its first book. It is a detailed textbook and makes up an introduction for the wide field of geography. The book is produced and published from students for students. Hopefully it is the first book of a whole series of textbooks on various fields of interest.
A friend of mine opened up a publishing house with me as a coequal business associate. My main task are the production of graphics and the coordination of technical issues concerning two- and three-dimensional graphics. The production and administration of www.perpetuum-publishing.com also belongs to my fields of work.

It is a german book and available in book stores and soon on Amazon, too.

My nephew and me

On February 13, 2010, 7:39 pm i got a nephew. His name is Devin and when i visited my sister in the hospital the following picture was taken:

Obviously me and Devin share the same taste when it comes to hair styling ;)
I wish him and his mum all the best and hope that they stay healthy and will cope all challenges life provides.

Tattoo design

Besides several projects for university, from Flash games, Flex applications, lots of analog drawing and design tasks, short films to the final exams i took myself some time and created tattoo graphics.

As soon as i find a studio that fits my needs i will go and get inked.

"Services", "Press Articles", "Co-Productions" added

Hope everyone had a nice and calm christmas time, i definitely had. I recently added three new menus: a main menu "Services" at the top and two sub menus on the right, called "Press Articles" and "Co-Productions".

The "Services" section will provide all informations on commerical services and work i provide.
The items belonging to "Press Articles" and the ones belonging to "Co-Productions" simply are links to external web articles/presences. So i can link to articles about my work and to sites of peoples/companies i cooperate with.

Updated 2D Alien & About section update

Studying takes a lot of time. This is a fact. But besides all work i had a cool idea concerning the 2D alien in my logo. I kind of overhauled the look of it by tweaking the highlights and the shadows. Now the alien has more depth and appears more 3-dimensional.

I also updated the programming skills box in the About section. I added ActionScript 3 and MXML to it.

Compass - WIP

A friend of mine needs a compass for a book cover. Today i made a first test. Modelled a quick, fairly simple compass.

SFL Intro is ready for takeoff

More than 6 weeks ago i started to work on the SFL Intro. It was a long way from the first scribbles to the final video. But approximately half an hour ago i encoded the final version of my new intro. It is 12 seconds long and has a resolution of 1920x1080. Some creative battles had to be fought and many logical considerations had to be done. But in the end all things came together and i'm proud to be done with this project. On the one handside because i was excited of how the new intro finally would look like. On the other handside various new projects want to be done.

SFL Intro - WIP

Since last week i'm working on an intro for the SFL "brand". It'll be a about 7 seconds in 1920x1080. I started with creating the SFL alien in 3D. I didn't expect that this would be a hard job. But it was really hard. I don't know if i'm the only one who thinks so, but i find it much more difficult to create simple forms than to create complex ones. It takes a lot more time and tweaking until i'm happy with a simple model than it takes me with a complex model.
Furthermore i want to gain a decent recognition value. So that one can see the connection betwenn the 2D and the 3D alien. And of course the alien has to look as cool as possible ;) Here are some shots from the final alien model. More following soon.

Tools Help section is up-to-date

Today i built the Tools Help section. With this my website is finished and completely up-to-date. Now i can focus on creating new media and new tools again. I really missed this. Because the only thing i did the last weeks was to build up this site.

SFL

Tools section update finished

Although my today's task is to finish renovation of my new room, i finished the Tools section instead. When i turned on my pc this morning i wanted to upload one or two tools. But i wasn't able to stop. It was just fun and so i uploaded one tool after the other and finally the Tools section is up-to-date.

SFL

Anyone here...today!?

Today i made a strange experience. It's my birthday and nobody was there to congratulate me from face to face. Actually this happened because i just moved from Fulda to Darmstadt and i don't know anybody here, yet. My family is visiting me on Sunday. But in fact the day was not as bad. I had time to finalize the About section. As i wrote last time i wanted to finalize the Tools section. However, i was not able to make this. Some things in real life wanted to be done. I'm looking forward to the upcoming week. I should get this done there.

SFL

The Tools section is growing

After i moved places and now have internet access i began uploading some tools. Tomorrow i want all tools to be online. Hope to get this where i want it to be.

SFL

Media update finished

It's done. The media section is up-to-date. I spontaneously decided to create another main menu for the SFL Tools. In the beginning i wanted to have one single media section which contains all the images, the videos and the tools. But today i thougth that it would be much smarter to put all the scripts and stuff in a own section called SFL Tools. Its content is following very soon.

I also built a banner for the site:

SFL

First media content is published

Once again i can't believe it. This is the forth overall redesign of my website. But i'm as happy as a school child who is eating a huge, colored, delicious lollipop that the first content is back online. I thought a lot about how i want to build the structure of the site. And what and how i want to present it.

It is my aim now to create a website that suites my needs for at least the next 3-4 years. Compared to all previous designs and contents, i now want to present my multmedia content in a much more detailed way. So that my site characterizes me and my abilities. Of course that should be the aim of every website, but i have to admit that until this relaunch this came much to short. Hope to make further progress tomorrow.

SFL

FG of media content done ;)

Moving houses brings lots of work. That is a fact, unfortunately... But i nearly got all media content ready to upload. Some tutorials for my Maya tool set are yet missing. But i hope being able to make them in the upcoming week. But all other images and videos are already waiting for their upload as well as the Maya tools. I'm glad that i already got them so far. Thus "Final Gather" is finished...

SFL

A little bit of tweaking

Tweaking here, tweaking there, changing everything, everywhere. My goodness, i find myself rebuilding and rebuilding every little aspect of my mew CMS. I like it very much, it's called Drupal. Before that i used Joomla, but for me its backend was too confusing and its core features couldn't convince me at all. After one year with Joomla i felt it was time for a change. I read tons of threads and posts about content management systems. Every system i found had either way too less features or was as overloaded as Joomla. But finally if found Drupal and instantly fell in love with it.
Now, after two weeks, i feel comfortable with it and ready for take off.

SFL

"About" section created

After i had dozens of different themes and styles for my website, i finally did it: i wrote a short page with information about me. The page got its own main menu link called: "About" It's like a little miracle, but it's true. After having my site for 3 years i finally got it done ;)

SFL

s-f-l.de goes modern

I like building themes for either little PC applications or my website. Looking at my site day by day made me quite sad ;) So i decided to give it a new dress. The most modern and freshest look since i set up the color scheme for the "brand" SFL. Enjoy it...
