This image shows a natural motive. With this image i wanted to fake real depth. To achieve this i used depth of field and a color correction. Cold colors for objects that are far away and warm color for objects that are close to the camera. The DOF obviously is not physically correct beacause i used faked z-depth pass for it.

When i fake the DOF effect i assign a flat black material to the whole scene and create an environment fog. Such a setup with correct settings is great for faking z-depth. The advantage of a z-depth pass like this compared to the original Maya z-depth option is that you can use anti aliasing. The standard z-depth channel doesn't support this.

Finally all passes and layers were composed to get the final image.
