At university most of the time we are supposed to do simple and/or abstract animations. Actually this is not much easier than creating a "complex", non abstract thing. For me it's even much harder. As soon as it is up to ourselves what software we are allowed to use i stick to 3D.
One animation i did deals with two light streaks. One represents fire, the other one depicts ice. They fly through space separately and finally mix up to a single streak. I used particles, motion path animation and lots of indirect illumination and reflection techniques to achieve the final look. Final compositing and dubbing did the rest to complete the video.
